The Cataclysm of Man Hours Lost!

So I wonder how many man hours will be lost today around the world because of WoW's new expansion Cataclysm? And you know what else? Three Activision-Blizzard releases are going to account for the majority of the sales for the PC this year, very unfortunate.

I suspect that I am one of the few that will not be partaking in WoW's newest content, and I am perfectly fine with that. I did do the midnight launch for the Burning Crusade, eventually did pick up Wrath after a few months of release and as of right now I have little to no interest in getting Cataclysm or even playing WoW.

I have played so much WoW over the years that I am just burnt out on the game. It's a great game and does many things that I like and look for in a MMO, I've just played it a lot. But then maybe that's what the purpose of the 1.4 patch and the Cataclysm expansion are for. When you think about it, the recent changes to WoW are as close to a sequel without actually being a sequel.

Uh-oh, I think I have just talked myself into almost playing WoW again. So for the sake of my sanity, I will end this post with this statement: I hope Cataclysm is everything WoW players have wanted and I look forward to the myriad of blog posts about it!

Dude! I've been playing WoW since beta and this is by far Thr best thing they have ever done to the game. It is amazing how they turned a dying game into a new game. I'm sure by next moth Blizzard will be saying they have 13+ million accounts created. Cataclysm is the best game since Vanilla WoW.

I quit WoW last fall and started up again about a year later when they released the Icecrown Citadel patch I think...so I know how you kinda feel. I told myself I didn't want to, that I'm just too burnt out, but in the end curiosity just got the better of me. I re-upped my account and decided to go with the flow and not to fight temptation anymore. And when it's time to leave WoW again, I'll know.

I will not be tempted to join you two on the darkside! Ok so maybe I am tempted just a little.

My previous WoW history is very similar to yours. Stood in line for BC, got burned out and quit. Played for a few weeks during the Lich King era, but I still felt burned out by it.

I really doubt I'll be sticking around WoW as long as my last stint. However, for the time being I think they have done a great job freshening the game. I'm having fun again for the first time in years.

You should be tempted, this is Blizzard's best work yet, imho.

I burned out twice during the WotLK era, so I understand where you are coming from.

Cataclysm is just WoW, only better. If you liked WoW, you would probably enjoy what they have done with the game. But if you really are burned out, it's still WoW. If you are on the edge, I can only suggest that you give the low level content a try since you don't need to buy the expansion to do that. If you get hooked, you can always upgrade later.

I started when the game released and I've been burnt out many times. Recently though I was pretty bored to the point where I thought I might never want to play again. It has been pretty refreshing with the shattering and Cataclysm though.

On any alt I don't look forward going through BC and Wrath again but that's how the cookie crumbles. Other than that Azeroth feels completely new and fresh again.

The changes to Azeroth are what really appeal to me most. I'm sure at some point I will end up picking this up, but for now I am enjoying having more time for my non-MMO games.

So, some months down the line, Cataclysm is having huge problems retaining customers. Any reaction to all that?
